Nature Ceramics

Whether it’s a rushing waterfall, a sunset beyond the city skyline, or the brilliant display of fall leaves reflected on a lake, nature has been a source of inspiration for artists since the beginning of time, existing as its own natural artwork. In this class, students will explore how clay, a material that comes from the earth, can be pressed with other natural elements, such as sticks, leaves, stones, dirt, and shells, to manipulate texture and aesthetic. Make a vase decorated by the coral reef or create a city that’s being invaded by a jungle. Learn how to use clay to imitate the parts of nature that captivate you. Nature Ceramics will help you bring to life the beautiful imperfections of the world we live in, and speak to the tension of living in both a natural and unnatural world.
